A famous American painting is “George Washington Crossing the Delaware” painted by Emanuel Leutze in 1851. Other exhibits include collections from Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Europe.
There are also collections from ancient Assyria, Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and Rome as well as exhibits of Islamic art. Among the popular exhibits are the “Arms and Armour” with its collections from the European medieval period and ancient dynasties of Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Japan.

An extension of the Metropolitan Art Museum is The Cloisters, located in Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan and overlooking the Hudson River.
